Website Launches
This website went on-line today, providing members of the Orthodox Church in America their first comprehensive information source concerning the allegations of financial scandal at the OCA's headquarters in Syosset, New York. Operated by Orthodox Christians For Accountability, a newly-established Ohio-not-for-profit corporation, OCA News is solely intended as a service to the OCA, formed for the purpose of creating and encouraging dialogue within the OCA, since there are no other current venues for a full and open discussion of these allegations on a church-wide level.
In addition to current news concerning the scandal,
this website offers the readers original documents relating to
the scandal, a nine-year chronology of the scandal,
reflections on the scandal by priests and layman, as well as
a blog, where members of the OCA are encouraged to share their
thoughts. (As with all serious matters, disagreements are anticipated
and differing views will be respected.) A "What You
Can Do" section
encourages members of the OCA to begin discussing the allegations in
an open and frank manner on the parish, deanery, diocesan
and national levels so that a healing resolution may be discerned
and achieved.
The webmaster, Mark Stokoe, is a former member of the OCA's Metropolitan Council.
